Recording hardware into Ableton delay

Post by Bradders »

Sorry if this is a newb question but I’m trying to record from a tr8s into ableton

Setup is M2 MacBook Pro, ableton 12, 128 buffer, tr8s connected via usb

I’ve tried to midi clock delay on ableton’s preferences but I can’t seem to get the kick to line up with the grid

Is there anyway to compensate for this and get the drums to record tight to the grid. I’ve turned input monitoring off and it stays the same, also doesn’t seem to make a difference when I delay the clock.

Ableton is master
I’ve set the midronome to 24ppImage

Hi :)

This does look like a very large delay indeed. You said the TR8S is connected via USB, but it is sync'ed to the Midronome, correct?

If not -> clearly that's the issue :D
If it is -> it could be the MIDI note you are sending from Ableton over USB which gets a delay.

Make sure delay compensation is on and reduced latency while monitoring and try adjusting the track delay on the Midronome plugin track.

See section 2.3 of this manual: https://go.midronome.com/sync

Cheers
